Hey I need to know....I have a 96 4.0 OHV V6 X. well I just got a 2.5 inch pipe bent that matches the same bends as the stock pipe from the muffler...I was going to put a 50 or 40 eries Flowmaster with this 2.5 inch piping i just got but, will it be too big? Please someone let me know should i keep it or go back and get a 2 1/4? Someone please enlighten me on this...I ve been getting all crazy bout this for the last couple of hours.....

that will work good

Do a search. There are several peopl that on here that run 2.5" pipe with the OHV.

Seems like a lot of guys want to upgrade their exhaust, I have searched the site and haven't found anything all that conclusive. whay dont some people post some preferences here, obviously everyone seems to agree on either a 40 or 50 flowmaster muffler but what about the piping whats the best, 2.5"? now what about headers does anyone have any suggestions on this mod, is it worth it? what type of gains can we expect? and what about dual exhaust does that work well on the 4.0 V6 OHV?

Aside from sound what we really want is performance, and particualrly off road performance.

Thanks guys,

I did a ton of research on this a few months back when I was making the "catback" decision. Generally speaking, the "optimal" pipe for OHV is 2.25" piping and for SOHC is 2.5". Who decided on "optimal" is anyone's guess (although Flowmaster makes the same recommendation related to HP on their site). There are numerous folks with 2.5" pipes on OHV and 2.25" on SOHC that are having no problems at all.

Go with what works best for YOU. 2.5" pipes will give you a different sound and a little less bottom end.
