In my quest to figure out why my lighter won't work I had the top section of my center console on my 02 XLS out today. underneath there are two unsused plugs. one is gray and one is gold or brown. Does anyone know what these are used for in different trim levels?

COuld be extra power sources for another power point or a interior light?? I'd like to know also...

mistery plug

The plug under the mat in the storage bin, thats in front of the cup holders is for a cigarette lighter. The optional ash tray fits into the bin space and the cigarette lighter get its power from this plug.

one is for the traction defeat button, I'm guessing. probably your XLS doesn't have that option.

well couldnt u but the button and plug it up and try to see if its actually there but no button? i have a 00 mystique and any option that it didnt have on it but could come with it was fully wired for and just took the switch to make it work.

I think the traction control uses a computer to activate brakes independently, and reduces engine power. also has a yaw/motion detector for when the vehicle goes out of control. I doubt all of that stuff is there, since it's got to be some pricy parts for a 800 dollar option. Just like they don't put side airbags in unless it has the option.
