2 problems with 1993 Explorer

1) There are two buttons on the dash. One is 4x4 H and 4x4 low. When you press the buttons, nothing happens. What could the problem be??

2) The fuel gauge doesn't work. It reads empty all the time.

Welcome to this forum! The sending unit in the tank eventually goes bad, and it throws off the gauge. Sometimes it's just the float which is replaceable without having to replace the entire sending unit.
