20" Biling Blingers on my 4wd '91 - Question

Am I going to have a problem with the automatic locking hubs, or will most wheels fit over it?

Are there any that you KNOW fit over (the cap covers the hub)?

You will more than likely have to take it to a machine shop to have the center of the two fronts bored out.

Has anyone here put 20”s, or even 18’s on a ’91-94 4wd?

Yes there is a member on here with a 1st gen and he has pics of his front wheels drilled out in the center by a machine shop... I do not remember who it is, but I think it is the guy with the sub box that has the neon circles around the subs and the subs are angled towards the ceiling like:

Anyone else?? I realize this may have been discussed before, but unfortunatlely 20 is too short to search for...and I could not find any specific threads relating to 20's on 91-94 4wd Exs.

My biggest concern is the hub. I'm sure, however, if I just bring it to a tire store that has 20's I can probably find one that will fit.

Does anyone know if I can fir 20x9's or do I have to stick with 8.5's. - What should the backspacing be?

for a 20" rim it would be hard to say.....the larger opening in the back probably wouldnt have trouble going over the hubs but i dont really know for sure...

most likely you will have to get the center bored out.....maybe you can call truckxpressions and somehow get a measurement of the rear of the wheel?

There is no way to get around the hub, it's just too large for any rim to clear. Even if you get a rim that has center caps, the hub will stick past the openings. Any machine shop would be happy to bore out the centers for you, and it shouldn't be more than $50.

Ok, so I can just go pick out some rims & have a machine shop bore out the centers. Alright, no problem.

Would a machine shop be able to make a cap fit over it? Like, by melting it & thinning it out & extending it a little in the center? Can you sand & paint the tip of the hub a chrome-like color without adverse effects?

I guess these are all things I will have to try, but if someone has the experience, please share it! Thanks.

Well hmmm.....

I might actually just get a 3" Body lift, some big tires & some 15x7s.

It all depends. My brother just bought a Lexus EX300 and the dealer promised him any rims he wants. He doesn't wanna put rims on the Lexo, so we is gonna give them to me is I buy him a set of tires for the Lexus.

He may, however, decide to get rims for the Lexus after all. If he does, I'll go with the body lift & tires.

20"s are too damn expensive for me to be buyin.

When you choose your rim, get the specific model number and brand and call an auto accessory shop that sells rims and ask them if they will fit the 4x4 hubs. I picked out a lot of rims that did not fit. And the alternative is to drill the inside of the rim, but then the end caps may not fit correctly.
