Sorry i've been away today and haven't got a chance to look at it. I'm going to head out there right now and check that crossmember out.
Thanks for the replies!!
Wow I feel like a dork:-( Those bolts are all there and that crossmember is removable. I don't know how I could miss that. It looks like the tranny will almost fall out of there!! I will report back once I check if the converter is engaged all the way.
Now if it is then the front pump is probably hurt. Taking a motor out with the converter still attached especially in such a tight bay can cause almost as much damage as putting it back in that way. The only time that should be done is if the motor is locked up and you cant get to the converter nuts. On these 4.0 motors sohc or ohv you gotta get them through the starter hole.
Yeah I'm well aware of how bad of an idea that is. I guess they were just learning but this might be a very expensive lesson for them. Hopefully it's just the converter but if it's the pump also have you or anyone ever replaced on of them? I've been trying to research on how to change one in that transmission but I haven't really found much on them. I can't even find the pump itself to see what it is going to cost. Must be looking in the wrong places or something....
No I stopped playin with anything newer than a c-6 my 5r55e is a aamco rebuild 1800.00 ouch but the warrinty was worth it. Now its sitting in a corner waiting.

Ouch is right!! I hope I can figure out something to fix this without spending that kind of money.
I started pulling the tranny out tonight. All I have left is the converter bolts and bellhousing bolts so it's going pretty good I think.
Well I just got in from working on it. I got the tranny out. Had to use a slide hammer to get the torque converter out of the tranny I knew that wasn't quite normal..... At first I didn't see anything out of the ordinary but then I shook the converter and well I don't think stuff should be rattling around in it!! I guess that is the problem. If I look down the hole there is the smaller splined section near the "front" of it and that moves around freely side to side when I shake it. I don't think that should do that but I'm not really sure???
Is there any way to check the pump out also without disassembling it? It visually looked good but I don't know for sure.
Thanks ya'll off to bed for me!!
Try federated auto parts most stores can get tranny parts if you can find someone who can do more than basic searches ....you know like the good old days when they had books
I got brave and thought I'd remove the bellhousing from the transmission and little did I know the pump was attached to it so I see now it is super easy to replace it! i inspected it and the was some metal filings in there and some real bad wear on the pump housing behind the pump "gear". I could see where the converter was not engaged properly thus causing some major pressure on the pump causing the wear.
I located a used pump that looks new for about 60 bucks complete and a reman torque converter for 130 shipped so I am going to order them and hopefully by next weekend I will have them installed.
Would it be worth installing a line pressure boosting kit like the sonnax in this transmission? The reason I ask is it has quite a few miles on it so I didn't know if it would maybe hurt.
Alright I decided to just leave the valve body alone but I did order the pump and converter so hopefully by the weekend I will have it up and driving!!
Alright here's the update.
I installed the new pump and converter. It kinda works sometimes.
At first it would only go if I put it in 1st or 2nd but not if I put it in drive or reverse. It then would work in drive and reverse sometimes. I then thought on the off chance that the new filter I installed was maybe partially plugged or something I drained the fluid (through the drain plug I installed) and put the old filter back in and low and behold I was able to drive it 7 miles while stopping every mile or so and trying reverse out and it never missed a beat that is until I got back home, shut it off and no reverse and no forward it I put it in drive. As soon as I put it in 2nd it jumps right into gear perfectly. I can then shift it into drive and it works fine until i try reverse again and the same thing no reverse and no forward if the shifter is in drive.
I should mention that it will move slightly in reverse if I let it sit and ldle for a little while.
Anyone have any thoughts on what this could mean?
Ok after doing some more research I decided that it's a good possibility that it is an electrical problem so I went and disconnected the connector on the transmission and tried it and it went right into reverse and drive. I think it is safe to assume that it is not a mechanical failure inside the transmission.
Any ideas on what could cause this without setting off the check engine light?
