Went to back into a parking spot and noticed reverse was hesitant. Pulled forward and then reverse again and truck went into "safe mode" so I turned it off and back on and it was safe mode was gone. Put it in reverse and the wrenvh came up as well as safe mode and now svc tranny light is on. Just wondering if you guys have any idea what could be wrong.

probably a bad solenoid block, or water in the connector.

Im hoping for a cheaper fix than rebuilding/replacing tranny. Bonus is I do work for a ford dealership. Had no problems with it all day until im leaving work.

Check the fluid level.

Check the fluid level.

No dip stick to check it. Also svc engine light comes on and over drive light comes on and service wrench as well. Tranny guys at ford say its shott but have not looked at it.
Would hookibg It up to a computer tell the problem?

There is a way to check to see if the tranny fluid level is full on these transmissions but I don't know the exact way to tell you how to do it. I think it has to do with opening up the fluid fill port on the tranny itself and if fluids starts running out of the port, it is full. Not sure if the engine needs to be running during the fluid check. You can find the exact fluid check method in here using the search box at the top of the forum. Just type in a question regarding that subject matter(check transmission fluid level), include the year and make of your Explorer in the question.
Yes, they can hook up a diagnostic reader to the vehicles computer and get the tranny codes coming from it for your specific problem.
Also, if your transmission has never had the fluid and filter changed in it from new and it has over 60,000 miles on it, you can expect that it needs to be rebuilt. These trannys are notorious for crapping out after the 60k-100k mark without regular 30k interval fluid changes. Fresh fluid seems to be the key in keeping these trannys running long and right. Good luck.
