The headlight bulbs are difficult to get to. I wiggled around and was able to get to the bulbs eventually. The passenger side is easier to access if you remove the air box. You can get to the bulbs leaving the headlight assembly in place, the trick is not touching the new bulb putting it back in.

BTW- I would replace both bulbs while your at it, the other one probably isn't too far behind.

Thanks a lot for your help I am currently serving a 12 hour night shift and have another one to do tommorrow I will have a go monday morning and let you know the outcome.
Cheers from the U.K.

While i,m still at work I have a problem with the engine management light coming on on the dash. I had a diagnostic test done and results showed a dodgy 2nd lambda sensor but apparently their isnt one on this model sugestions were a leak somewhere. Any sugestions I will probably put this question to the open forum if you cant help. Thanks in anticipation Tony.

Hello

I just bought a 2001 4.0 L S.O.H.C. Explorer north face. I cant help you but good to know there are so many people out there with these over here. I am in love with my new baby! I am just looking to modify it a little and put on accessories, do you know of any good places to get them and what is your experience with the ford dealers?

Hello and welcome to the forum!
There are quite a few of us in the UK. Check out the UK Owners section of the main forum where you will find a lot of useful info and UK contacts. It's a kind of 'self-help' community and it's a fair bet that between us we know more about Explorers than any UK Ford main dealer!
BTW, changing headlight bulbs doesn't involve removing any fixtures or fittings. There is enough room to do the job by lifting the little plastic flaps at the end of the strip across the radiator. It can be fiddly if you haven't changed a headlight bulb before (on any car) as it's mostly done by feel... I also have quite large mitts (not quite in the Peter Schmichel league though) and got by without too many scratches to the backs of my hands!

Good luck
Simon H

P.S. Don't forget to drop in and say hello in the UK owners section!
