2000 4.0 sohc alternator

I'm lookin to upgrade my alternator to a 290 amp alt and i'm pretty sure the one that a guy has will fit my explorer, but i'm not sure. He said it will work as long as mine is not a PCM. All i really need to know, is do i have a PCM or not?

no, he doesn't, it's a plug that some of the fords have that this alternator doesn't have on it.

Correct.

Some alternators for Ford's have the plug connector on the top. If your truck does, you cannot run any alternator other than a PCM alt.
