My 2000 EB V6 SOHC appears to leaking from the drivers side exhaust manifold. I will be checking it out this morning, but my wife was driving it yesterday and it got very loud and CE light is now on.

I will spray the manifold bolts with PB Blaster and let them soak. I live in the NorthEast so I am sure the bolts will be tough to remove.

Does anybody have any advice or tips on installing an exhaust mainfold (drivers side) on a V6 SOHC?

I checked Rock Auto and Advanced Auto and they have the manifold and gasket for around $80.

Thanks,
Mike

fender flap

I sprayed my exhaust manifold nuts and bolts 2 days ago and tried to tighten them up yesterday. Didn't have much luck with access using all different combinations of drives, extensions, etc. at my disposal. I realized the only way to accomplish the task is to remove the wheel and inner fender flap. I suspect that you'll have to loosen the EGR tube from the EGR valve even if you only want to slip out the old exhaust manifold gasket. I needed a medium depth socket and only had a too shallow and a too deep.

Is the manifold cracked or broken? Maybe its just a leaking gasket.

The exhaust manifold will need to be replaced since a piece broke off the manifold where it bolts up (only one of the two bolts was holding it together).

I was able to use a 12 inch extension and remove 5 of the 6 nuts on the manifold, 2 bolts where it mounts below, and the EGR tube where it connects to the EGR valve. I sprayed all the nuts / bolts with PB Blaster, and also tapped a socket with a small hammer onto the nuts prior to using the breaker bar.

Is there any trick removing the EGR tube from the exhaust manifold? I ran out of time today, but it seems to be slowly loosening. I have one more nut to remove from the bolt, since I tried both a 7/16 and 1/2 deep socket and it didn't loosen up yet.

Thanks!

Thanks 2000StreetRod! I was able to remove the EGR tube on Monday and I installed the new Exhaust manifold yesterday.

Here's a question which I have now:

I went to AutoZone after installing the new manifold since my CEL was on. The code was "P0174" which means the ECM detected a rich or lean air / fuel ratio condition on the engine block.

After having the code scanned, I then noticed when starting the Explorer that the rpm's will jump to "2,000" when starting, and then drop down to "500" after a few seconds. When this happens, the lights dim and the car appears that it's going to stall. However, the car will climb up to 1,000 and then run OK. My wife said that it wasn't idling right when the exhaust manifold went on Saturday.

I checked the P0174 code from Autozone and this could be a Failed HO2S1 (Heated Oxygen Sensor - Bank 2 Sensor 1).

Can anyone comment on what to check for the idle issue now?

Thanks in Advance

I figured out the problem with my idle. The EGR gasket was only connected on one side so that my causing my car not to idle correctly.

Did you have a gasket on there ? I'm doing this on my 96 right now and there appears to be no gasket or it is really burned in there..

By the way for getting the manifold bolts out I used a ratchet and a small leverage bar over it, for a few bolts it helps to have the extension as well. with the leverage bar it wasn't that bad
