2000 explorer 2 door

Hello everyone. still learning the forums so this question might get moved. I just bought a 2000 ford explorer 2 door and i like it alot. It has 98k miles but a full folder of all documentation plus carfax clean. The question i have is about the 4wheel drive. Again i bought it last night so i am going to read the manual this evenning but thought i ask here before i leave work. The switch for 4wheel drive says AUTO/4HI/4LOW. Does it say auto becasue it is AWD in that position? I know probably it is but not sure. All the help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the site!! In Auto, it operates in 2WD until it senses slipping and if it does it will engage 4WD until the slipping stops then go back to 2WD.
