2000 Explorer XLT V8 2WD
I have a 2000 Explorer XLT V8 5.0 2WD at 160k miles that was running flawlessly up until just recently. I go to pull out of my driveway and find myself unable to reverse the vehicle. I'm reving the engine but to no avail (as if it were in neutral) until suddenly kicking into gear for just a short moment, jolting the car back a few feet, only to return to its inoperable state. I haven't been able to reverse the vehicle since. I also learned that neutral is not engaging either, as I had to tow the vehicle out of the driveway and found it would not roll while in neutral. Once the vehicle was out of my driveway, I was able to drive it around the block but it barely had any power and refused to downshift even with the accelerator pushed all the way down (I read this may be a type of safety feature that is keeping it in 3rd gear so as to not further damage the vehicle). I noticed then that the check engine light was on and after scanning it I was left with these 3 codes: P0750, P1636, and P1747. There were absolutely no signs that could've told me something may be wrong and it was a well functioning and well maintained vehicle before this sudden problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

P1636 is something about "signature communication," and does not seem relevant to your problem.
P0750 is a malfunction of Shift Solenoid A
P1747 is a short circuit in Pressure Control Solenoid A - same as above
I am by no means a transmission expert, and am sure the experts will soon chime in.
In the meantime, this sounds like a cheap and easy replacement of just one solenoid in the valve body. Let's hope that's all. Good Luck!

Oh, so shift solenoid A and pressure control solenoid A are the same thing?

I am guessing here. Our transmission experts should be back from their Thanksgiving holiday by now, and hopefully will provide the real answer.

SHIFT solenoid A would place transmission in or out of first gear. Pressure Solenoid A is another thing altogether, controlling operating fluid pressure. I prefer shift 1, 2, or 3 and pressure sol. 1 or 2.
