2003 XLT Explorer 4.6 V-8
Hi Guys

I'm hoping for a little advice. I have a 2000 Ford Explorer XLT with the 4.0 liter engine and automatic tranny. It has 73000 miles on it. When I first purchased the truck it had a low speed (like tooling around a parking lot looking for a parking space) slip between first and second gear. A little research paid off and I was able to correct the problem by replacing the spacer plate. It seems that Ford neglected to drill a hole in the OEM plate and at low speed the tranny lost pressure.

The truck has been flawless for the last year and a half. However, recently it has developed a slip between third and forth gear. According to my mechanic, I also have a compressor waste gate valve that is starting to make noise when the AC compressor kicks on. Could these two things be related??? I've also heard that the Mass Air Sensor can cause this type of behavior. The tranny seems fine with the exception of the slipping between the higher gears and the fluid is nice and red and smells fine.

By the way, the tranny doesn't slip all the time and its not a dramatic slip. Actually its more annoying than anything. It seems to be the worst when you pull out onto the highway and your working your way up to speed under "normal" acceleration.

Any of you gurus have any miracle fixes for me??

Thanks in advance

Where's all the transmission experts?? :o)

Could be a loose or clogged valve body. That is a known issue with the 5R55E's. There are lots of post about it. Search and ye shall find.

Thanks for the reply.......

I had a local transmission shop tell me that it is probably a clutch getting hot. He told me to buy a product called Lube Guard and put in my tranny. He claims he uses this to fix this type of problem all the time. Anyone ever here of this Lube Guard??

Thanks

Lube Gard is worth a try. Do an advanced search, allow it to search all posts for "lube Gard".. you can read about it. No harm in trying it.
