2000 Explorer (Wider Tires for Stock 15" Rim)

My SUV is an EXPLORER SPORT 2WD, Sport 2dr model.

My SUV came with 15 inch rims (235/75/R15 tires).
I think the 4WD version of the Explorer Sport came with optional 255/70/R16 tires (16 inch rims) on exactly the same body style. Therefore I don't think clearance will be a problem.

Do you know the rim width of my 15 inch rims ? They have a 10 hole/10 notch pattern.

I am paticularly interested in the Michelin Cross Terrain (265/70SR15). I really want to increase the footprint of my tires but don not desire to purchase new/larger rims. WILL THEY FIT ?????????

Welcome to the site.. Let me get this straight.. You want to go to a bigger & wider tire? The rims from the factory are all 15x7 or 16x7 depending on your wheel size. You can get a 31x10.5x15 with a lil rubbing on a 15x7 with a torsion twist & shackles or AAL. You can also go down to a 30x9.5x15 if you desire. The 235 stock tire is 28.9". You can pretty much get any similar tire on a 16x7 rim. There's a metric tire conversion formula that I can't recall right now.

255/70R15 tires are wider than stock but are the same height.
265/70R15 are a little taller and wider, but should fit with no rubbing.
Both will fit on the stock wheel.

No Modifications to Suspension

Critcal Level 2 ....

Thanks for the promising news..... keep in mind though that I will not do any modification to the suspension of the SUV (still all stock). Does this change your answer ?

Quick glance at the Michelin web site and the tires I want are 29.7" in diameter(height) and approximately 10.5" (265 mm)width. Again my rims are stock as well (15 x 7) ..... I'm sure about the 15" not too sure if it is 7" wide though.

The stock rims are 15X7. Either will can fit fine on the stock rims with no modifications to the suspension. The 265/70R15 will help fill up the wheel wells for l;ess fender gap cause they are little taller than stock, but will not rub and will require no suspension mods.
