Just picked up this truck at the auction, has no first gear.

Trans fluid is clean, looks a bit low though.

Just revs if you put it in drive or if you select 1st, and slowly creeps forward.

I can select 2nd to get her going without issue and then select D and she'll drive normally even on the highway. I click the OD on and off and it'll engage and disengage properly.

Despite all that, I'm thinking the trans is hosed... anyone confirm?

Cheers,

lbrowne

Is it really that rare of a problem? I wouldn't think...

I have the same problem with my 97eb 4x4 4.o sohc. i havent been able to figure it out either.

Internal seal or clutch concern.

I have a 2002 Ford Explorer and having trouble with the original clutch system is there a conversion for this model?

mine does.everything is good just no 1st.have to start in 2nd and put into d after taking off

First let me say Manual 2 on the selector is actually 3rd speed in the 5R55E trans. Ist and 2nd speeds are actually missing. The only thing common to both is the Low Sprag, which is not used for any other Speed (gear), it is inside the trans, and requires removal and tear down to replace.
This is what I see.

ouch, guess a new old unit is in the future...thanks

is your OD light flashing? you can probably get your codes read and it'll tell you what the issue is, might be a solenoid, might be more serious.

I have reverse, no OD light blinking. No codes from the obd2 reader.

Looks like I scored a replacement trans...
