Hello, I have a 2000 Ford Explorer 2 door 4x4/awd thing. Has the 4.0 (x code) Just bought it had no problems at all to it. Driving it around for about a week and it decides that it will not start, it has no codes on it. Its getting fuel (pressure test on the fuel rail) Checked the coil it checks out good also. Fuel pump makes the normal sounds. Everything seems alright, I haven't even opened the hood really and it just decides to die. I've looked everywhere to find out what I can look for and at. I'm mechanically inclined so break it ALL down to me. I have the push rod motor I believe. I'm hoping or well thinking a Camshaft position sensor or a crankshaft position sensor. I'm hoping, but I can't seem to locate neither one sadly. The book didn't tell me nothing. The no codes part scared me a little, because it does scan, and it just said 0 codes found. Where do I begin to look and where will it end. Things I've tried, switching keys, used my spare (witch worked before hand) Didn't work, checked the fuel and fuel presure, coil checked out good, didn't check if I have spark AT the spark plug. But obviously if the coil checks out then I SHOULD get spark. But something is stopping it from the fuel going into the cyclinders and/or from sparking. It just turns over, it wont even sound or attempt to start. I did have a problem like this the other week, it didn't want to start, so I took my other car to work. Got home tried it and it started. (figured it was cold and it just didn't want to start) so it started right after.

Can't seem to get the explorer to start!!!!

crank position sensor (behind crank vibration damper) is a good possibility. try unplugging it and plugging it in again. the connection could be loose or dirty. what kind of fuel pressure are you seeing at the fuel rail?

Also look at the theft light in the dash. It should blink slowly. If it blinks fast, you have a PATS problem.
