2000--- Front Axle Shaft

2000 Explorer with 4.0L. AWD. Swapped out front hub bearing, per great article on this site. No problems. HOWEVER, the how to did not mention if you greased the axle shaft spline before install of hub assembley. Looks like factory did not, as axle splines were bone dry fit. BUT, haynes manual specifically ststes to be SURE and apply multipurpose grease to axle shaft splines. O.K. fellas, do i need to tear this apart again to apply some grease???

no, no real need for it! If you are going to put anything on it, let it be anti-seize so rust won't build

Ditto. Nothing to worry about.... definately not worth the headache if that is the only reason to take it apart again. It's not going to hurt anything, just may be a bit more difficult to remove the next time around.
