I've asked this question in a couple other forums, but haven't really found any good answers yet. My 2000, 4.0 OHV, has problems switching from 3rd to 4th, escpecially during hard acceleration. To my ear, it just takes too long to shift. You can hear it go out of gear, then the engine starts to rev, then around 2 seconds later it goes hard into 4th.
I took it in to the dealer and they said that a valve was gummed up, and they power flushed the tranny and hoped that would fix it. I have to say that since they did that it is better -- when it does shift it doesn't jerk like it used to, but it still takes too long to shift.
Everything else is great on the tranny, it goes into drive/reverse very quickly, downshifts like it should, no other problems.
Can anyone explain this? I'd like to just tell the dealer what work I want done rather than asking them to find a solution to the problem.
