2000 liftgate wont' open

The liftgate on my '00 XS won't open now. It worked fine, but then one day just wouldn't open anymore. The liftgate glass works fine, it is the liftgate itself that I cannot get to open. I pulled out on it while trying to open and got the right side open, but the left side stuck. The handle has no tension on it, like some part of the linkage has come loose. Any tips on how I can get it open and repair this problem? Thanks.

i had the same problem with my 00 xlt, i finally got mine to work by making sure everything was unlocked (including the black push thingy on the back) and then i pulled that sucker until it came undone, now it doenst give me problems

I'm going to move your thread to the General Explorations forum, you should get a better response in there.

You will need to get the rear lift gate trim panel off.
It wont be an easy task with the lift gate not openeing.
Once you are in there a pair of pliers and you can pull the linkage by hand.
It should not be a tough diagnosis after that.

Thanks...I'll give it a try. Does the trim panel use the same type of fastener as door panels and just pop off, or is it more complicated than that?

Yeah same principal.
A few screws under the pull strap.
Acess is gonna be your villian.
