All at the same time the speedometer, wipers, washer, door ajar and chimes quit working. I searched the forums and tried the door latch cleaning and disconnect and checked the fuses and nothing worked to remedy problem. Anyone have any other ideas? Thanks :)

Check the fuses at the engine compartment.

Fuses check fine. :)

I have two theories:

1) washer and wipers have one thing in common - Multi Function Switch. Are your turn signals still work properly? Any smoke (common to see). But a Multi-Function Switch wouldn't fix your speedometer or door adjar problem...so we'll go to my theory that I believe the most:

2) Your GEM is OL (out to lunch). It isn't too common for GEMs to fail, but it's not like it hasn't happened. The only reason I'm saying this is because the speedometer is controlled by the GEM. You need to hook up a scan tool, see if your getting a speedo reading - possibly go into the GEM and see what information you can get from it (codes). On a side note, GEM codes are seperate from PCM codes. They should be B-Codes (B0XXX) The GEM module is basically your body control module, which - all of those things are body controlled

Hope that helps a little

Thanks Drew,
Is the GEM the module beside the radio?

I believe it is. Each vehicle is different, but it should be somewhere around in there

All of those problems have in common the ignition switch. Check the LG/VT line coming off the switch when in the run position, as well as the BK/LG. You could check them at the fuses, Central Junction Box #11, 15, 19, 16, and 20 should all come alive with the key in the run position and should be dead with the key off. It's quite possible that the switch went bad and isn't making contact properly. However, it *may* also affect the radio... not sure offhand.

Also, the speedo signal is fed directly from the VSS. The VSS is also powered by the ignition switch, so that would explain it.

Let us know what you find!

Fuses check good. Have not checked relays. The slot for the multi-function switch relay did not have any connections so no relay was present.

Sent customer to dealership. Replaced "inline fuse" for $256. WOW

I have the same problem with a 97 ranger. all fuses look good yet I have no radio or windshield wipers.

Where is this inline fuse??? any one know hoe to find it??
