After 5 years of putting up with the SOHC chain rattle, my noise is now mostly gone. It was always much worse in the winter, but it disappeared totally about 5,000 KM ago. (I just hear a faint rattle every now and then) I suspect the primary tensioner has finally broke and the chain has no tension on it. I did buy the update kit a while ago, but have been putting off the job until the weather is warmer.

Has anyone else run into this situation before? Should I be parking this truck until I can go in and have a look?

Glad to hear you can go 5 years with the rattle. Mine started about 1 year ago at 140,000 miles and I now have 156,000 miles. Mine goes away sometimes when the engine is hot.

How many miles on your X?

Mine's had it it since about 50-60K. It has 143K now and has been fine.

Remember....they always run the best just before they blow up! :D
