Where can I get one? I have checked auto-part stores and have been unable to find the right bulb. I also let my dealership know and they said it would be like $80 - I'm sure I can find it cheaper than that somewhere... The manual says its an 899, but after taking the bulb out, the 899s that are sold at retail stores are not the same - specifically, the plastic "twist lock" part of the bulb doesn't fit into the stock fixture. Is there something obvious that I am overlooking here? I'm sure all u guys know this , but just in case - I have the round fog lights on my truck, not the square ones. Thanks

The bulb for the round foglights in a '01 should be the same for 98, 99, 00 as well. If that's the case, the stock fogs take H1 (speaking from experience as I've got a '99).

Always check Sylvania.com for bulb applications. They're pretty much the universal source for a LOT of people including manufacturers that aren't related to Sylvania. I see their site linked all the time.

WTF...This is weird. I swear the 899s ive seen at advanced autoparts are larger than the one i pulled off my ex. Are there different 899 sizes...? Maybe ill try an H1

Ok, I looked up H1s on google and i'm pretty sure thats the one I need. I've come to the conclusion that my manual sucks and sylvania.com is confused... I only want my fog lamp to work

BTW, Thanks celly

I think they mean the '01 Sport which is different. The Eddie is pretty much unchanged from '98-'01 and they use a H1. I also used a H1 in my old '00 Sport which had the identical fogs.

This is what Sylvania recommend for ALL 2000 Explorers:

Fog/Driving light
H1-55W
H1ST Silverstar High Performance Lighting: The Whiter and Brighter Halogen
H1XV XtraVision Halogen Upgrade: Up to 20% Brighter

This is an H1:

In 2001, the Sport was the only model with a redesign. The 4 doors didn't get the redesign until 2002. Your '01 Eddie should take the same bulbs as a 2000 all around.

p.s. Glad to be of service. I just scored some yellow PIAA H1 bulbs of eBay. :D

p.p.s. I just checked Sylvania, and they have a different application for the 2001 Sport, but it's not 899 either. That's got to be a typo for the '01 Explorer. As before, 4 door Explorers were virtually unchanged in the final few years of the 2nd gen.

Nice....yeh thnx alot

No worries. I just edited my post above and put in a link to a photo. That should be the bulb style you want.

i thought we couldnt replace the bulbs in the fogs?..i read on here that ya gotta replace the entire light(housing and all) itself which costs $75 from ford...i gotta buy a full light either way as my passenger side lense took a rock

Nope. The H1 bulbs are easily switchable. They even show you how to do it in your manual. If you need the whole housing, they sell them one at a time as well (left and right are specific). I just did it. My fogs were looking a bit rough so I swapped them both out about a week ago.

what did ya pay for the enitre housing etc?..and where did ya get it from?

I bought them from a dealer and got roasted! I'm in Canada. We pay a lot more for parts than you guys. I saw this setup last night on eBay. Not only the fogs but all the wiring too.

Go here

I've dealt with this seller. They're superb. I paid a lot more than this for just the housings and new bulbs.
