2001 Ford Explorer Sport
I recently purchased a 2001 Ford Explorer sport from auction. I went to test out the stereo and was less than impressed. I do like the 6 disk in-dash pioneer unit that is installed ( Is that a stock unit?). I noticed I really lack the "BASS". I dont have a subwoofer but notice that there is a nice inclosure built in near the passanger rear wheel panel. I was curious if anyone has ever replaced or put in an aftermarket subwoofer in the built-in inclosure. I would like to use this inclosure as apposed to placing a box in my back. I used the storage space to often. I would not have a problem installing an aftermarket ampliefier due to them not taking up to much space. Please let me know if anyone has put an aftermarket speaker in the built-in inclosure? ;)

Thanks,
Dan

Welcome to the forum.

Try the search button. It's a great way to see if someone has attempted something before, which this has been done. I know at least people have built sub boxes to go in that space.

You can built one or get after market enclosures that fit in that space. That is also where factory subs came located. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum. As Nocturnall said, searching is usually the best option, and some people don't appreciate when people post up a question that obviously was not searched yet. Since you are new to the forum, you obviously did not know this, so I did a search to show an example: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86333

Welcome to the forum, and be sure that if you make a custom box, be sure to post it up. Also, I believe MTX makes a box to go in this area, if you do not want to build your own.

JL Audio makes a box that fits there. (empty box or a box with a sub in it)
Q-Logic makes a box that fits there. (empty box)
MTX makes a box that fits there. (empty box, box with sub, box with sub and amp)
as briwayjones said the factory sub is in that spot, so you can pick up a factory sub on ebay or junk yard. I don't know if you have the same hu as me, but I have the Pioneer 6 disk in dash unit. But I have the facotry sub. I can tell you that my hu will lower the base out put as I increase the volume. It is a anti-distortion feature the claim.
