2001 Ranger 5R44E

my 5R44E OD off light is flashing, and wont go into 5th gear,and shifts hard. if i shut the truck off,then restart it, the tranny works perfectly. After about 50 miles of driving, it will happen again. can anyone please help me with this one. the transmission only has 47K on it.

Get the code(s) read and the reason for the hard shifts when the OD comes on is the trans has gone into limp mode. Don't run it this way as more damage can occur with the higher pressures. Report back on the code(s). Your will need a scanner that reads Gem Codes. A basic scanner is no good.
