I have an '01 ranger 2wd w/2.3L 4cyl. Heater hose 4 way junction broke and have repaired that. Yes it got hot on the road, but luckily I was only 5 miles from home. Shut her down, let her cool, added water 3 times and got it home to my shadetree. No leaks in repair but engine light is on and truck either cuts out or is very week. In nuetral egine runs and revs fine, this problem only happens in gear. Could plugs fouled or could a plug wire got damaged by heat. I am disabled, got more metal in my back than most chevys
so any help will be greatly appreciated.
My guess is that coolant has soaked your coil packs, you will probably find a code like "cylinder 3 misfire" or any other misfire code coolant is a good conductor at least to ignition voltage it is. the 2.3l is about as bulletproof as an engine can be I doubt it got too hot.
Thanks Brian, gotta dumb question to axe. Where are the coil packs, what do they look like? Can they be dryed, cleaned or just need to replace? BTW, like your boat drink statement. I'll drink to that!
2001 ranger coil pack is mounted on top of intake manifold. Engine heat and the high voltage (more heat) caused pack to short out and for #3 cylinder to misfire. I went to autozone to have my computer codes checked and they told me my comp. was bad. WRONG! Fuse to comp was blown. Runs like new now. THANK YOU BRIAN4X4 etoilejohn in Etoile Kentucky
