I bought a used 2002 4x4 with 4.0 V6 and 43000 miles 2 weeks ago. I've experienced a clunk or miss on hard acceleration a few times. This is not always present. I've got a 3 month warranty on the used car and want to figure out what it is. I don't think it's a miss. First noticed going up a hill on a downshift. Feels like a clunking kind of a miss sound. It felt like a clunk clunk clunk thing about 6 times in a row spaced about a second or less apart. This has happened more than once. This car is a lot more complex than my Bronco II with manual trans and manual hubs!! My worries are something screwy with the auto trans or 4 wheel drive system. Is there any way to really turn off this 4 wheel system to aid in diagnosis?

How can I get TSB info on line?

Anyone add the exterior temp sensor to the base XLS? (I know the dash has the capability) Anyone swap out/add exterior heated mirrors? (I did this on my Maxima) FYI, I already bought another remote from ebay and programmed it myself - was trivial.

I plan to buy an aftermarket class III tow bar for the rear. Local places price at about $190 new. Also, roof rack cross bars price at $40 each from local Ford dealer. I don't have 3rd row seat - any recommendations on rear cargo area tray/mats?

Glad to join this forum!!!!

Thanks,
Tom
