OK I am working on my Mother in Laws Explorer 2002. Manual HVAC controls. I replaced the blend door actuator due to the clicking etc. That went fine. What I am having trouble with is getting the door to close completely to give full heat. I can remove the radio bezel and then push and pull on the doors to get them to close and feel hot hot heat.
I made sure about the settings for the actuator and the door when installing it.
I just cant figure out if the door itself is bad or if the actuator does not have the full sweep needed. I have been searching for a few days on this and wonder if anyone has had this problem.
Do these doors break? This seems to be the door below the radio.
An unhappy Mother in Law is not a fun thing.

Thanks for any help.
Phil

When you installed the new actuator was it installed in the exact same orientation as the old? Something is telling me the rod it sits on could come out of alignment so when you have the blend control (for temp) turned all the way to hot, it may not be turned all the way to hot. (Hopefully this makes some sense if an issue like this is even possible. I remember reading somewhere when doing the actuator the control either has to be full cold or full hot. It's been a while though.

You may also need a new blend door. I don't know if manually forcing the door around could have damaged it further. Worth checking in to though

Thanks for the reply. I made sure that the actuator was in the cold position as was the door when I installed it. I wonder too if the door is not in the right position. I never heard any kind of crack etc when I would push on the door and there was no point when I felt it flex or give either.
I am going to remove it all again on Saturday and see if I can get it right. This should not be this much of a trick to get this right.
Thanks

I have replaced 2 of them and they are in a very tight spot, What I found that worked for me was to make sure it was first set all the way in the cold setting then when I removed the old one I took the plunger out and stuck it in the slot to make sure it was turned all the way to the cold (then removed it) and before installing the new one I plugged the power to it and turned the control to hot then cold to make sure it was going to move (and it did) disconnected the power to it then installed it and reconnected the power and it worked perfectly... But Now I do have to replace the actual door because the pin for it broke and the door no longer moves.. the actuator is fine I have heat & AC, just without the door working there is noway to control how the air will flow... But that is a fix that needs to be done by someone who has lots of experience, to replace the actual door you have to remove the entire dash and that will take from a day to a weekend to do...
