I have a 2002 4WD Explorer XLT. Recently, the 4HI and 4Low lights started blinking 3 times at start up and every 10 minutes or so. It doesn't appear that I could get it into 4wd. Based on feedback I disconnected the battery to reset the codes. I am now able to put it in 4HI and the lights have not starting flashing as of yet, but...
I do encounter a awful clunking sound in 4HI while turning. It also seems to just engage 4WD whenever it feels it would like to. Could this be the infamous 4X4 module behind/under the glove box that is bad. Thoughts? Comments? Thanks
