I have a 2002 ford explorer 4.6l v8 4x4 eddie bauer edition. it is stalling and running real rough. recently the cel came on and is giving a p0340 code. after some research i can tell this seams to be a common problem but cant seam to find how to fix it. i am pretty handy when it comes to working on cars so any help would really be appreciated. thanks kyle

The cam sensor is easy enough to get to and at only $23 it's not exactly expensive.

If its the sensor.

you need to remove the power steering pump pulley, power steering reservoir bracket and high pressure line to gain access to the CPS. you also need a new teflon o-ring when re-installing the hose.

This may be true, I replaced mine while the cover was off. At least on my 04, it's behind the reservoir braket. The bottom of this braket may be sandwiched between the block and power steering pump. I did not have to remove any power steering lines when doing mine.

Due to the sensors shape, I don't think you can finagle it out with the PS pump bracket still on.

Thanks everyone I will be trying to do this tomorrow i picked up the sensor today, they gave me 2 one had the pigtail connection on a 90 degree angle and the other was right on top, not sure which one i will need so i got both to be safe. I will update tomorrow as soon as i replace it!
