On an extremely cold night, a few nights ago, a relative borrowed my Explorer. They rolled the driver's window all the way down. And now it will not roll back up. You can hear sounds like it is trying to roll up. All of the other windows work fine. Could it have jumped it's track ??? I am usually a self sufficient, do - it- myself kind of lady , but I am at a stand still. I have the door panel off and can see the bottom of the window , but now I am stumped. What is next ??? Do I have to take the metal panel off ??? If it is off track, how do I put it back??? Help would be greatly appreciated as it's very cold here. Thanks in advance, :exp: girlky ;)

PS... It is not off track... it sounds like a crackling plastic or something. Could it be the gears ??? There is a cable that is going from what appears to be from the motor to the window pulley (or whatever it is). The end of this cable has broken plastic as well. I am sorry if I am not making sense. If it's the gears how do I replace them. I can't afford a dealer to fix it.

my rear driver side window is like this. what my problem was that the cable used to roll the window up and down what ripped apart while it was trying to roll up in the motor and got caught up. these windows dont really have tracks. so far the only resolution i have found for this problem is to buy a new window regulator, they do not make the motor, cable or any other part seperate and they tend to run around $100.
hope this helps.

It is sold as a one piece assembly. I was going to replace one, but after looking at it closer, I paid the dealer. If you haven't figured it out yet, you can probably grab the window and pull it up.

Hey, I had my drivers front go out on me just before New Year's and being that I didn't have time, I paid a dealer to do it. $430 freaking bucks. Well guess what, last friday, passenger rear broke! I had the day off and decided to fix it myself. All you have to do is tape the window up, remove door panel(remove switch cover for hidden screw and lift UPon the door panel after all the screws are out) and associated plugins, plastic cover and speaker, drill a hole to access the rivet that attaches the track to the window and drill that out(very easy to do). Undo the 3 bolts to the motor and 2 bolts for the track, out it comes. Replace with new window regulator and I used a bolt with a lock washer to reattach the track to the window. Cost me $180 dollars from Ford and I bet I could do it again in less than an hour. I was kicking my own ass after I saw how easy this was. Anyone in Kansas City that wants help replacing their window motor, let me know.
