Hi guys. I have a 2002 Explorer Sport Trac. It seems there's a disconnect between the gas pedal and the engine because when I turn on the car and step on the gas, the engine doesn't rev up. Is this what's called a misfire? Also what should I do to diagnose and fix this problem? I'm kind of new to Explorer problems so any advice is appreciated, especially advice that is detailed and simple to follow since I'm a newb. Thanks a lot guys.

I'm confused, can you drive the truck or is it just when you're in neutral?

There is normally a cable that goes from the gas pedal, through the firewall and connects to your throttle body and when you press down it opens up the throttle body and allows air in. so if there isn't a cable there.. then that's your first problem...

well the feeling is like I'm stepping on the gas when on neutral, but the car does move, but not like it should. Stepping on the gas doesn't speed up the car as it should, and the engine doesn't increase the RPMs a lot.

sorry i can't help you.. the only things that come to mind would be a bad throttle positioning sensor, or a fuel/spark problem.. try playing with the throttle directly to rule out the tps

Thanks 97sprt for the effort. I think my friend just fixed the problem.
