2002 EXPLORER SPORT
I just purchased a 2002 explorer sport with 19,000 miles. It has been
sitting in a neighbors yard sinc e 2004 when she bought out her lease
so her mom could drive it.....she never did. I had it towed home and
changed oil, filled fluids, new plugs, filters, new battery, pulled wheels to verify calipers not locked up. No owners manual but I bought the Haynes repair manual.
Tried to start but it won't. Verified that there is no ngas in injector
rail, no noise coming from in tank pump, 20 amp fuse and relay ok.
Sitting 5 years with 1/3 tank of gas could have damaged pump, but
maybe it isn't getting power....could it be pmc control or more likely
the pump. Any tests other than pulling tank and pump? Can anyone
tell me where to go with this. Thanks, Don

First, take your trusty Haynes manual and locate the fuel pump relay in the engine compartment fuse box. Now locate your horn relay. Honk the horn to ensure the horn relay works. If it does then swap the horn and fuel pump relay and retest for fuel pump operation and for your horn, just to prove out. If this did not correct it then pull the fuel pump relay again. With key on there should be power on two of the relay contacts in the box. If this is not good, check the fuel pump fuse and the PCM power relay fuse. (#7).
If the two contacts have power then check your inertia fuel cut off switch in the passenger kick panel. If there is power on both sides of the switch then you will need to check for power and ground at the fuel pump connector. Time to drop the tank. It's more likely you'll find the problem before that. Just for curiosity sake, let us know what fixes it.

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread into the stock 95-01 section. You could use a voltmeter or a test light in the relay socket to see if there is any voltage going to the fuel pump. A jumper wire could provide voltage as a direct connection to the pump to test it.
