Hey guys i have a 2002 ford explorer 4x4 (4.0) and it seems to shift slow into gear (drive and reverse). It also has some trouble going through the gears on a slow acceleration it seems to slip going into 3rd gear everytime. One more thing is braking to make a turn and then getting on the gas it has a bad lag at times before it will find a gear and take off. I already did the tune up and it helped some but its still not consistant. Any ideas?

I'm having a little problem determining exactly what your tranny issues are, or if they are indeed tranny issues. How many miles on your vehicle.... fluid history? changed when if ever ? color? smell? I'm not trying to be obtuse, I just need a little more info.

it has 90,000 miles I did fuild change last weekend mercon v went in.
There in no consistency in the way it shifts.When on the gas it feels good nice firm,sharp upshifts.When just taking off from stop in feels like there is a lag between 1st and 2nd and shifts are week. Then the next stop I take off the same way, and the thing has nice firm upshifts. Some days are better the others.{I had this promblem before the fuild change}
It is new truck to me had for about 60 days.it was a one owner the thing is very clean looks as though he took good care of it

I would say the shifting is normal. Ours is quirky and slow at slow speeds and low revs. Slow engagment is an issue though.

Probably would benefit from a New EPC and the upgrades to the VB... maybe not...but most ikely.
