I bought a 2002 Explorer. It was a gamble. They guy whom I bought it from said the transmission was out. I went to tow the vehicle and discovered the thing would "lot" run. I just had an issue with my Chevy truck needing a fuel injector and the way the Explorer ran, I thought maybe it was having fuel problems.

Turned out the trouble codes advised three cylinders were misfiring. I looked at the engine and noticed arcing from the coils to the plugs all the length of the wires. Replaced plugs and wires. Plugs were the worst I've ever seen. Explorer ran smooth, as in engine idled great!

Engine light still on!

Now I've noticed the transmission has a HARD shift between 1st & 2nd. It will rev/higher rpm's until you let off the pedal and then it will shift from 1st to 2nd. I have NO CLUE! I replaced the transmission filter/fluid (who designed these things w/o the dipstick??).

Any and all help would be appreciated.

I have read about something called a shift solenoid (?) I hope this thing is at fault.

Happy 4th!! :us:

The engine code may not clear itself right away. If you don't have a scanner, have the discounted parts seller (Autozone and yeah, that was a dig, but it's what their signs say) reset the light. Then see if it comes back or not.
