My wifes 2002 Explorers A/C quit the other day. I took a look and found the charge low. Had to add 3 cans to bring suction pressure up to spec. I knew it would not hold but it got her and our 5 month old baby through a hot snap for three days.
We dropped it off at the dealer for warranty repair. They found the high pressure line that runs under the car to the rear evaporator leaking. Its costing us $380, the useless aftermarket extended warranty they sold us has a $200 deductable and does'nt cover all of the labor or the refrigerant.
If any Ford dealer tries to sell you an extended warraty other than one from Ford don't waste your money. The warranty is by Prizm and is a joke. They ended up covering $120 of the bill.
I usually don't go for these but I know how these Explorers have tranny issues and thought it would be a good thing to get. The funny thing is the weekend before we dropped it off for the A/C the trans started to act up. I asked them to look at that while repairing the A/C. No verdict on that yet, posted the issue in the trans forum.
