- 2002 Explorer XLT
Hello all, I have just recently joined this website, it is most definitely a cult! I love it here, so much advice for everything! Here's my situation. I have a 2002 Ford Explorer, with 65,000 miles on it. Engine is in great shape, just had the Trans rebuilt at 45,000 miles (some kind of weird thing because I take good care of my car, change oil and tons of preventative maintenance,do not drive like an idiot, do not tow anything ect ect) It was only 3 things that needed to be replaced but since the year was way past and it was still under warranty, they rebuilt it all. Overall, I am moving to Colorado in the next year. So I am wondering if I convert to 4WD or AWD, would I be able to keep my engine or do I need a whole new engine? I could sell my current trans for a decent price in order to help pay for a new/used 4WD or AWD trans. Do I need a whole list of parts to do this? If so, could you kindly give me an estimate of the price range I'd be looking at and also a short list of things I would need. Keep in mind that I'd like to keep this Explorer, the body is in great shape and I already have alot of custom work done to it and in it. Thanks for reading and look forward to posting on the Forum!!
