4WD or AWD

CV axle dust sheild. Darned things are $25 each from Ford. Note sure where else to get a new one. Most of the replacement CV axles I've seen do not have them. It is a sealed bearing. Haven't heard of problems running without them.

That seal on Rockauto is in the wheel seal section in breaks/wheel hubs

I can buy a rebuild half shaft from RockAuto for $44 bucks, I would do that before spending $25 on a dust shield. That might not be a bad idea, how long are CV joints good for? I have 140K on it now and every front end part is shot.

I could not find it on rockauto. The only one they list, ACDELCO Part # 291106 SEAL,FRT WHL HUB, does not look anything like it. I sent RockAuto a Email to see if they could help. I want to get all these parts ordered at the same time.

just replacing the CV axles might not be a bad idea, although i don't think i'd get them through RockAuto (too much for shipping). i'd either pay a little more and buy them locally, or look for free shipping through AutoZone, Advance, AutoParts Warehouse or even Amazon. plus the first 3 listed usually have coupons and 10-20% discounts you can apply to your order. i didn't replace mine because my daughter didn't want to spend the money right now. if i replace the ball joints next spring, i may replace the axles too (not just because of the seals though, just as PM).

Not sure what I'm going to do yet. I have an order pending at Rock for almost $500 for all the other parts so shipping wouldn't be anything. And If I ordered them separate it would be $30 cheaper at Rock (with shipping) then Advanced.

Buying all the front-end parts I need from Rock is going to save me $345. Thats a big difference.

absolutely. i buy from RockAuto, but i also shop it around to get the best delivered price. one thing i've learned about RA, that you have to be careful of, is when they say parts will ship from different warehouses. that can really run up the shipping costs and some parts can take much longer to arrive. i've learned that the hard way.

Unless a CV axle is making noise or has obvious problems like a torn boot, would leave them in place. Most times when you replace the axle you will end up with a leak and have to replace the differential seals as well, especially on the passenger side (suspect this is do to the couple inch gap between the seal and bearing).

Ya, I decided to attempt to reuse the old CV axle dust shield. They look like crap but the rubber is intact, so I'll just keep wiping them down with oil to soften the rubber while I'm waiting for parts. Better then nothing I guess.

The CV joint boots are in great shape so like you said, why replace them.
Kind of hard to tell in this bad phone camera picture but except for some rust they look fine.
