Either is good, so long as it does not LEAK. Dana Corp. was applying Silicone Rubber to seal their differential covers using no convential gasket way back in 1978 when I visited their Spicer Plant in ft. Wayne, Indiana. Computer controlled application of goop.

Ok, Thanks for the info. I probably just use silicone since it seems the gasket is somewhat hard to find.
