2002 front wheel bearing

hello guys i got a 2002 explorer v8 4x4 i need to replace the wheel bearings in the front. I found a how to but it was for a 95 is it the same for a 02 if not is there a how to for a 02? thanks

It is a little different but not much.

I put up a howto for the 02-05 somewhere in here, and another person (I think) did it before me.


Only warnings I can give you is to soak the bolts with a penetrant, use a puller instead of beating on it, and don't forget to unhook the abs sensor BEFORE you jack your ride up.

I did both of mine on an 02 at 90K.

Trick I did was, use a three jaw puller to push back (lightly) on the half shaft, that kept it back away from the hub bolts enough to get the socket and breaker bar in there.

Slow slow job getting the bolts out, as you can only do 1/8 turns with the traditional 3/8 drive socket / breaker, no room for a ratchet.

It's an easy job. just time consuming. I did both of my fronts. I found a good write up with pictures for the pre '02 body style and it worked fine.
