2002 Mountaineer a good choice?

i'm looking at a 2002 mountaineer. it's the 4.6 v8, 2wd, auto trans with low 100K miles. the tranny's slipping and will need to be replaced/rebuilt, but the price is right and it's well equipped. is there anything special about this year i should watch out for. i have 2 second gens, but i've read the 2002's have their problems.

I just bought one a few weeks ago. 70,000 miles on it and everything seems to be in great working order yet. From what I've read, the trans is probably the main issue, but if you already have the rebuild budgeted in you're probably good to go. There's nothing else I can think of that doesn't plague the '03-'05's as well, and they have their trans problems also.

yeah, the trans seems to be the main issue. i'm reading things on carcomplaints.com like "avoid the '02's like the plague" i think i'm better off with an '01 v8. at least i know what to expect from them and i have experience working on the '01's.
