Hi all,

Just cleaned my MAF on a 2002 XLT. Used instructions from http://www.berrysweb.com/clean_your_maf.htm. Now, when trying to start, nothing. No clicking of the starter solinod. It's like a relay needs to be reset. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Disconnect your battery for 15 minutes and reconnect. If problem still remains, get your battery tested. Could just be a dead battery. A troubled MAFS should not really keep you from starting -- should only cause a DTC and/or rough conditions. I would also like to know why you cleaned an '02 MAFS? How many miles? Orig battery?

Thanks for the reply.
I did disconnect the battery for approx 20min. Same result. I tried again jumping the battery from our other car. Nada. I should note, I'm disconnecting the neg wire. When I do re-connect the battery, I here a click from the Power Distribution Box. When I try starting, all gauges respond including the tach and speedodmeter. Only the ABS, airbag and fasten seatbelt lights come on. Still at a loss. Any help would be appreciated....

Quick question, does the engine turn over? or you get absolutely nothing? Or does it just crank, but not run?

No. Engine does not turn over. I disconnected the MAF before disconnecting the battery. Wondering if I blew a relay or the EEC.

If I understand your "does not turn over" as being "no starter noise"... nothing not even a click, then perhaps the anti-theft relay is pulled-up for some reason... RAP module or perhaps the relay is stuck. Other than poor connections to the battery or a bad starter solenoid, not much else in the circuit.

Lets not forget about the "PATS" system. The system *may* need to relearn the keys since you disconnected the battery more than once, I've seen it happen before.

I can't remember what system is in the '02 explorer, I believe it's a type "E", I'll do some digging and see if I can find you the instructions of re-learning the PATS key without a scanner, ( yes it can be done ) unless of course, someone else on here comes up with them first.

EDIT: here you go... http://www.smpcorp.com/web_app/techtip/download/9662_0405.pdf

Has some other useful info in it as well as far as what to do after resetting the computer, etc...

Back from business trip. Truck still won't start. Cleaned battery cables, checked fuses and tapped on starter solenoid. Don't think it could be the PATS system because gauges, lights, windows all work when trying to start. Guess I'll give up and tow it to the dealership.
