I have a 2002 X with the 8.8 rear diff. and IRS. The cover has the fill/check hole and the big inspection/drain hole. It was recently serviced and they didn't add the friction modifier to it, so I was going to do it myself. The truck was level and I took out the inspection plug and fluid came out for about 15-20 seconds. How is this possible? I just let it flow until it was level with the bottom of the hole and added the friction modifier. Did I do something wrong? How did they get so much fluid in it?

did you have the explorer on a level surface??

also, dont forget that fluids have different volumes at different temperatures.

Level

Yes, it was level. The diff. was cold when I opened it up. Should it have been warm?

maybe they just overfilled it ? If your worried.. Drain it and refill it yourself. to make sure everything is ok.

Yep

I think I will. That way I know it was done right.
