so, i read my chiltons manual and it says there is either a plug on the diff cover or a plug somewhere else on the diff. so there is no plug on the diff. i take it off to drain it and im looking around for a plug and im not seeing it. there is a bolt towards the top of the diff but i dont think it is the fill hold, it looks like it is holding a magnet on int the diff, i need help. its a 97 3.73 open

There is a 3/8 square drive plug on the front upper part of the case.

The fill hole ( on my '99 ) is not on the cover, it is located on the drivers side upper part of the axel housing.

You can see it on the attached picture; item # 36

thank you much, ill be back when im done (hopefully) to give a report

thanks for th help guys. only problem is i left a 3/4 bottle full of grease on top of the fuel tank skid plate....and i drove off.

BTW, get one of the pumps to get the fluid in there easier. They come with the larger containers of axle oil (2 1/2 quart size). World of difference from trying to get those bottles stuffed up in there, and plus, you can save and re-use the pump for the next job.
