Just picked-up a very clean 2002 XLT to replace the '96 EB crushed by a tree in the big east coast storm 2 weeks ago. Anyway. . . I want to replace the rotors and pads. Went to RockAuto to order. They have several choices and most all the different manufacturers offer one choice of front or rear rotor. However, Motorcraft lists two choices for front and rear rotors. One set for "Before 8/19/02" (front or rear) and another part number for just "Front" or "Rear". My truck was definitely made before 8/19/02, but does anyone know why there are different rotors from Motorcraft for the same '02 truck depending on when the truck was made? Will the other manufacturers' rotors (only one choice for front or rear) fit my pre 8/19/02 truck? Thanks for any help. I'm not sure what to buy now. :hammer::hammer:

tell you the truth I don`t know, I have a 02 too, but I didn`t know they had 2 different numbers? bought these rotors and pads off of ebay 189.00 shipped the seller is out of Chicago I had them the next day I live in Michigan, they are crossed drilled and slotted a huge inprovement over my stock rotors and pads, I know people will say that that thw ceramics will wear the rotor faster, but I will give up long wear for more stopping power thats my own opinion :D

Had my '02 since new, have never heard of this. Mine was a March '02 build, I think.

FWIW, I had my OE rotors turned at about 75K miles when I replaced the original pads. They weren't bad, but I did it just to clean them up; however, within 20K miles they were warped (likely due to heat buildup and thinness), so I recently replaced all four with new Raybestos ones from Checker/O'Rielly Auto Parts. Although these have been on only about two months, so far I am very pleased with them.

Same thing happened to my '04, the rotors at 30k started to warp, i was able to turn them, only 20% was worn, but soon after, like 6 months they warped again. This time i went with the Raybestos Advanced Technology rotors, so far they work great with EBC green 6000s. They still look clean. A lot of guys have luck with the slotted crossdrilled but they look to sporty for me. . .imho.

Ford, I've notice, has done some weird things with the model years 02-05. Some things are different and some aren't but you should be fine buying other brand rotors as long as they are for your truck. Personally I went with Raybestos like some others on here have said. I am very pleased with it. Had to change the rear rotors because a caliper seized and made my explorer a UFO at night in the winter. Red hot. Of course, if was warped after that. Hope it helps.

When my rotors develop a pulse I don't even bother cutting anymore. With prices as low as they are I just replace.
