Hi , I just bought a 2002 Sport Trac I now find I have transmission problems, however I am probably in a worse jam than most of you , my Explorer is in the Philippines so finding a recon or S/H transmission isnt really a feasable option. I either have to fly in a new or recon box from the USA or get it rebuilt here ............ however the locals here are very resourceful and I am thinking it might be possible to change the Tranny out from a different vehicle or put in a manual shift...........being from the UK driving a stick shift doesnt phase me but I would prefer an auto..................Does anyone out there know if there are any other manufacturers tranny's that will fit with an adapter plate or even if it is possible. The symptoms so far are the O/D flashing and only the first two gears available ..........had the tranny stripped already and new clutches and solenoids fitted that cured the problem for 130 km only and now back to the original fault. Having read the other threads and on some other sites working thru all the other options checking thru the wiring and generator(yeah I know I thought that was an odd solution but a couple of sites mentioned the sensitivity of the PCM and loom problems in the steering column and one guy replaced his generator and said it solved his problem too lol (try anything once)).........the box is smooth on change no grinds or clunks and only has 54k kilometers so it would be real sad to have to junk this one its great to drive here the torsion bar suspension makes it smooth and comfortable over the potholes its the 2wd version so at least there are no transfer boxes and extra stuff to deal with. Anyway any help would be appreciated and comment welcome.
