I have a 2002 XLS that is not starting consistently.
I had driven it around before doing some errands and after stopping to get fuel it turned over but wouldn’t start. Had a tow arranged (died late night) and when he got there the next morning it started fine.
Drove over to my mechanic and he said most likely a fluke in the EVAP system. He turned it off and it then started immediately after. I thought it was fine.
I had used it a couple more times no issues.
Fast forward a few days and the same thing happens again but I did not fuel up this time. I had run some errands and turned off and a couple times. I had parked and went in briefly to grab what I needed came back out and did not start, turned over but wouldn’t run. Let it sit for a couple hours came back out and it started up fine.
Again used it a couple more times no issues.
Now most recently, it died while running after I had shifted from drive to reverse and then would not start. It seemed that it was closer to starting this time because it revved just a bit higher and lower like it just barely couldn’t start as opposed to a consistent turnover.
I’m really at a loss at this point as to what could be the issue since I can’t seem to recreate the issue consistently.
