Hi ya all....just got back from overseas....my 02 ut 3rd gen exxy has been sitting for a while....decided to go for a spin....drives sort of ok along the flat road sections...on trying to climb small hill, car cut out and would not restart...got towed home last night...on putting car into my garage,i decided to give it a start, which it did...revved up and sounded good.....so starts on a level surface but stalls on a incline...sounds like fuel to me...????...before going away i replaced the filter and added premium fuel....so before I resort to a stealership...has anyone got any ideas please....thank you

When you gas it on a strait away it drives fine?
Doesn't sound fuel related to me. Maybe the yaw rate sensor is bad, on a hill it detects a "roll over" and kills the car?

Hi number4...its now in garage at home...started yesterday...tried to start a minute ago....nothing...where is this yaw located etc....any pics/threads would be great............cheers from downunder

I originally thought it to be under the center console near the rear. But from other documentation, it may be in the steering column. I'm also calling this idea into question. I don't know that it impacts fuel, it may only impact power to the wheels.

Just finished removing brand new filter...now disconnected....on turning over engine,no fuel coming thru...thought i would start there first....with 3/4 of a tank of fuel,i guess its the fuel pump....just been reading up on cutting hole in floor...not too crazy about it..but...i guess its the only way....will let you know....will check out ebay on pump price..........see ya

Switch to fuel pump cut off is behind the right side lower panel under the glove box. It has a hole in it if the switch is open it can be pushed down.

Number 26 fuse in the engine bay power box and check the relay also in the same box number 48. When you remove the tank leave the lines off the fuel filter . That way ithe tank will come all the way down on the ground. If you also take the 4 bolts out of the transmission cross over bracket on the passenger side by the fuel tank it will slide back with no problems. Don't forget fuel in heavy 7 pounds per gallon. It you remove the hose from the rear of the tank you can drain the fuel. You will have to put a screw driver in the tank hole to open up the roll over valve .

Was thinking of open heart surgery....(cut hole thru floor)...as a one man gang, laying on floor upside down,i was not too keen but if you reckon dropping tank is easier, then will do it....my tank has heavy plastic shield bolted to chassis....is that normal...?????...will slide under and check it....is there any links on tank removal....?????....i could not find any............

Its not bad dropping the tank. If the fuel in your tank is over 6 mounts old get rid of it. E10 fuel will go bad in that time frame. You tube has a ton of videos on tank removal.

Cheers number 4 but that was fuel filter removal with the cut down sharpie cap.....pretty neat

Great video on the tank removal. I haven't cut out the floors on any Explorers. I do repairs on vehicles and would find it hard to explain to a customer I need to cut up there floor. To much liability. When the tank is out you can also clean it out a lot easier and inspected all the hoses on top of the tank. I found the emissions hose on the front of the tank was cracked and leaking. During your time under the SUV a transmission service would be a great idea. Replace the fluid with Amsoil universal trans fluid. Also great videos on you tube for the trans service.

That's odd, I get a video showing some Airtex guy removing the tank when I click on it.
I do know what video you are talking about as id watched it the same day.

Can anyone recomend the best pump to put in as i dont want to go thru this again...........

Bosch is OE, Airtex are good at a lower cost. Just make sure the wire harness isn't damaged. A lot of replacement fuel pumps use to go out because the harness was reused and was worn. This caused too much resistance and would melt the connector.

Just finished pulling tank out....a piece of cake....im really glad i did not cut the floor....i had reservations about dropping tank but now done it was very easy....removed pump...will order new one...putting tank back in empty should be easy....so anyone thinking of cutting...dont do it.......................

Hi guys....a quick one...just been on fleabay looking at suitable fuel pump assemblys (complete unit)....very confusing,if anyone can help me narrow it down....unit part # is 1l2ub...build date of pump is 10th month 2001.....also on removing tank, gas gauge in car reads 3/4 full...i guess sender is crap....any ideas greatly appreciated......

For 2002, looks like Delphi is OE, not Bosch.

What's your vin code?

Check gauge first

What ever pump you buy. Plug it in before you put it in the tank and check the fuel gauge operation. Its slow to response so take your time. Also put dielectric grease on the wire hook ups.
