This morning I went to start my X and it wouldn't turn over. Everything sounded ok but it seemed it just wasn't getting gas. Tried it again keeping pressure on the pedal and it started and ran. Kept the pressure on for about 10 sec. then took my foot off and it died again. Looked at the gas gauge and I was about halfway between empty and 1/4 tank and I was parked on a decline (nose of the car pointing down). I started it again with my foot on the gas pedal and was able to move it to level ground. Let it sit for about 5 minutes while deciding what to do. So I start it with my foot on the gas again, kept pressre on until the truck warmed up, let the foot off and it dies. Let it sit for a couple more minutes and told myself to try it one more time. Started with foot on the gas, held it for 5 sec. or so, took my foot off and it stayed running. Drove it around the parking lot a bit then got bold and drove to a gas station to fill up. Everything seems fine now.

What I'm wondering is if since it was on a decline could the fuel pump have sucked a little air into the line since I was low on gas and caused the X to do that? Then when I got it leveled out it started getting all fuel and pushed out any air? I use injector cleaner every 3 or 4 tanks so I doubt it's dirt and I started it last night (on the same decline) for 5 min. to haul trash to the dump and didn't have a problem.

At a loss of what to do since it's running ok now. Anyone else have similar problems before? Any suggestions would be great! Thanks.

If you don't have similar issues on startups going forward, then that could very well have been the problem, although on downhill incline, I only had similar problem when gauge was well below the E. If future startups require you to keep foot on gas, then problem may be your IAC.

Didn't even consider the IAC. Thanks TPLYNCH. I hope this isn't the case. I've only got 46k on the X. I don't want little stuff like that going wrong already. :( Not getting a whistling sound from the IAC either (had to replace the one on my 97X). If it happens again I'll clean the IAC and see what happens from there. I just wanted to be sure it wasn't the fuel pump or something like that going bad.

If ya got 60K or so on her, it's in the window for a fuel filter replacement.

Only got 46k on her and had the filter replaced a couple months ago. The X ran fine this morning with no problems. I guess it was just the combination of really low fuel on a decline. Really didn't think I was that empty. I always thought you had 10 miles or so of gas even after the gas light came on. But I wasn't empty enough for the gas light to come on in the first place.
