2002 xlt ut
hi everyone, ive just joined tonite.so greetings from down under...perth to be exact....ive bought bought a 2002 v6 xlt 4x4 auto in black very nice so far....has 151km on clock....super smooth going to the farm...climbed under to do the oil etc,to start off with a clean slate...as i do all my own servicing etc....love to learn and keep my $ in my pocket rather than stealerships...on doing so, noticed a black hose hanging down, about the same size as fuel hose...has a t piece attached....hose was in very bad shape and was not really doing any thing....i gave a slight tug and down it came...had to go to the stealership and view their very bad computer image of the pipe....it matched mine ....so ordered it in from melbourne....price was good....i now have a brand new hose with t piece attached with a push in plastic piece each end....i climbed under the car....cant see anything as hose goes on top of gearbox ???? now can anyone perhaps help with a diagram or whatever on where this hose goes.....according to ford its a auto gearbox breather.....any logical ideas would sure be appreciated........cheers:mad:

2002 ut g/box breather query

hi brooklyn....the hose has a steel fitting that pushes into the top of the g/box closest to the gear selector....it then goes 200mm or 8 inches towards the engine and pushes into the box again via a plastic push in type then goes another 200 or so to where.......thats the problem.....cant see, g/box is too close to the metal over the box (floor) the rubber hose in question has a plastic push in type fitting......but where does it go..................? the hose bought from a local ford stealership (made in canada) was a very reasonable $38 oz dollars and it has all the correct bends and fittings etc................so before i cut a hole out of the floor or remove the gearbox............hope someone can help..........

Your thread was moved into the transmission section. You could remove the transmission mount, and tilt the transmission to get access to the top. Another option is to remove the access panel in the floor under the front carpet. You will have to remove the front seats.

2002 ut g/box breather query

hey ronin....that would be great.....the hose lays on the very top of the box....just ahead of the selector....which i now have removed for better access......inside the car the steel tube type fitting pushes into the right side (your passengers) my drivers side......then in 2 inches crosses over the high part othe box.....still staying on the ridge.........then the second fitting pushes into the box.......then the last bit of the rubber hose goes forward to................?????. a diagram or pic from your manual would be excellent.......as i said the brooklyn the end of the hose has a serious looking plastic prong fitted push in fitting................cheers

brooklyn will see if ronin has any joy with his tranny manual before i pull the carpets etc out......its so cramped between the trans and the floor....might pull r/hand wheel off for a better view.........................

2002 ut g/box breather success

brooklyn......thanks again......pulled r/h front wheel off and removed the under fender wheel well protection......was able to push my hand up to the top of the g/box......had to snap off plastic retainer and hose.....leaving the push in prongs....only way out was to heat a thin bladed long knife until red hot ,push forward to the plastic bezel and cut it off with the hot knife.....if you or anyone has to do this the remove the g/box bolt in front of the plastic retainer (looking side on) other wise cant get knife in............beleive me its a crap job.....unless your the size of a circus midget.....im not........thats it for today....only got to put bolt back, the under side wheel bits and the wheel................im very happy.....could not of done it without the forum.................cheers lads:p:
