2002 XLT Transfer Case

While in A4WD mode the 4x4 High Dash light will sometimes flash several times driving at highway speeds, also at low speed with the wheels turned sharply there is serious clunking in the front end. Will shift into 4x4 low and 4x4 high with no problem. If in 4x4 low on dry level ground there is excessive jerking in front end (I know this is not recommended only did it for very short time to get a data point). With vehicle off there is no play in the rear driveshaft but there is some play in the front driveshaft, does this show a problem with the transfer case or the front differintial. Thanks in advance for any advice that can be offered.

Drained and refilled front and rear differentials and the transfer case. Rear diff oil was gray with quite a bit of metal in it front diff and transfer case oil looked good no visible metal from transfer case very minimal metal in front diff oil. Still Having the same problem. "Is it the transfer case, front diff or rear diff that is causing this problem"
