Good evening, i was wondering if anyone a had a step by step on removing the transmission out of my 2002 explorer xlt 4x4.

I had the tranny repair about 18 months ago. 1 and 3 we gone. the replaced a band inside.. i spent 3200 for this and look where i am today.

now it will not go into gear and it will not go into reverse.. i can not afford to take it into the shop again and i am going to try to do it myself. i have done other explorers but this one seems to be a little more work. I just want to make sure i don't ruin anything on the way in and out.. i know there is Haynes or Chilton, i am more of a picture person..

any help would be great.

thanks in advance

1. remove exhaust
2. remove rear drive shaft
3. remove starter
4. remove torque converter-flywheel bolts
5. remove all electrical connectors to transmission
6. remove shifter linkage from transmission
7. remove breather tube
8. remove transmission mount from frame and support transmission with jack
9. unbolt transmission from engine and lower transmission out of the truck.

There, nine simple steps :)

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread into the transmissions section. Check the links in # 69 in my list of useful threads, and the sticky threads on the top of this section for more information.

hitchhikingmike-thanks for your reply, here is the part i am stuck on removing the shifter linkage, so some reason it does not want to come out. i don't want to pull to hard as to break it or damage it. is there a special tool or way to remove it.

thanks

BrooklynBay- thanks for moving it, i thought i had put it in the right one.. you links in #69 were great thanks
